Randy Jackson Hits the Jackpot

Formerly known as a music producer, and more famously as a judge on American Idol, Randy Jackson has hit his stride on network television. With the wild success of his past endeavors, he began the show America’s Best Dance Crew at the beginning of the year.

Shown on MTV and MuchMusic (Canada), the show is hosted by Mario Lopez and Layla Kayleigh. Various singers and dancers serve as judges, including JC Chasez of N*SYNC fame, and Shane Sparks, a noted hip hop choreographer.

The concept of the show is simple – dance your tail off and win a prize. American dancers came out in droves for the auditions, which took place in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Chicago. In the end, twelve “dance crews” were selected and then broken up into various regions.

The winning dance crew of Season 1 was announced in March 2008. JabbaWockeez, an all-male dance group from San Diego, received this honor. Much to the glee of Randy Jackson, America’s Best Dance Crew will begin its second season in the summer of 2008.

The “Best” of America’s Best Dance Crew

Every show needs a draw, and America’s Best Dance Crew has plenty of them. Following the same format that made audiences go wild for American Idol, the show televised an auditions special before the competition formally began. Some of the auditions were hilarious, others downright pathetic. However out of it came some true talent, and from that came the twelve who made it into the MTV spotlight.

As the show progressed, another audience capture was found in the high demand for creativity that was expected of the crews. Each group was given a different music video dance sequence, which they then had to replicate while infusing with their own unique style. Losing their own “dance voice” would result in losing the competition, and many crews struggled to find that perfect balance between re-living classic choreography while breathing new life into it.

Lastly, spontaneous challenges were thrown into the mix, compelling crews to pull out all the stops with their best moves and fiercest choreography.

About JabbaWockeez

This San Diego crew of fun-loving guys stole the hearts of America’s Best Dance Crew viewers. With their cutting edge style and amazing sense of humor, each week brought a fresh and innovative look at dance thanks to the five creative minds behind this dance group.

Some, like Phi Nguyen, got a late start in dance. Starting at the age of 15, he quickly caught up on the years of technique he missed in the studio, quickly relocating from Phoenix to Los Angeles to further pursue his new passion.

Others like Phil Tayag, have been dancing their entire life and have always dreamed of stardom.

Together as a unit, JabbaWockeez rocked America’s Best Dance Crew, and will go down in history as the founding winners of what is sure to continue to be a successful show.
