From LoveToKnow Dance
The Cheryl Burke bio chronicles a stunning ballroom dancer who is best known for her stints on the popular ABC television show, Dancing with the Stars. Below you will find some basic information on Cheryl Burke, as well as where you can see her next!
Cheryl Burke Bio: Her Roots
Where do dancers begin, and what inspires them? This question merits many different responses, but for Cheryl Burke in particular, the answer is found in Atherton, a small city in Northern California. She grew up in a family that loved dancing, and her childhood home even has a dance floor inside of it. When she was four years old, she took up ballet classes, as do many girls her age. However, something was different about Cheryl, and her star power became even more evident when she began to perform locally. While she enjoyed ballet, she found her true passion at the age of 11 when she began ballroom dancing. Her competition career began at the ripe old age of thirteen, and she continues to dance today, enjoying a much larger-scale career.
Personally, she is a graduate of Menlo-Atherton High School in the San Francisco Bay Area, and has two sisters.
Notable Achievements
Since dancing often means a fleeting career for many, Burke has sustained herself through a true passion for the creative arts. She has been reported as saying that dance is an avenue for her to express her deepest feelings and passion, while also learning to focus during high-pressure situations. She also finds motivation in the fact she considers her particular style of dancing is unique. She is a self-described rule breaker and is always pushing herself to bigger and better things.
Until those desired accomplishments are reached, Burke can rest assured she’s had an impressive run as a dancer to date. She won her first Dancing with the Stars championship during the second season, dancing with singer Drew Lachey. She then won the following year as well, performing with the perfect match of football veteran Emmitt Smith. She’s also performed on the show with Wayne Newton and Ian Ziering. Dancing with the Stars has truly launched Burke’s career from successful to overwhelmingly fabulous, as she continues to appear on the show each year and also participates in the national tour many of the finalists go on.
Last year, Cheryl appeared on an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and also has appealed to younger dancing fans with cameos on such programs as Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.
One of her proudest professional achievements may be her Prime Time Emmy nominations for Outstanding Choreography, making her the youngest nominee ever included in that particular category.
Though she now lives in Los Angeles, Cheryl Burke has not forgotten her beginnings, and supported the International School of the Peninsula to raise money for its educational needs. She has also assisted the Menlo School, where her sister attends. Her role in the fundraiser? Providing a one-hour dance lesson in her house, which ended up selling for a whopping $31,000.
Burke also recently opened her own dance studio in her Bay Area stomping grounds, called Cheryl Burke Dance. Here students can learn virtually any form of social dance, as well as more traditional genres such as ballet. They currently offer both group and private lessons, as well as special events. Dancing with the Stars fans will undoubtedly be amused by the names of some of the studio’s ballrooms, including the Emmitt Smith and Drew Lachey rooms, obviously paying homage to Burke’s past television dance partners.
Still in her 20s, the Cheryl Burke bio doesn't end here - she obviously has a future ahead of her as bright as her past. With Dancing with the Stars continuing to garner outstanding ratings, and her other professional endeavors meeting great success, it is only a matter of time before Burke goes down in history as a legendary dancer.

Hi Julie, I don't know Cheryl Burke personally so I can't tell you if she's a bit stuck up or not. I'm sorry to hear you don't enjoy watching her when she's on the TV, but there must be plenty of fans out there who DO enjoy her since she's back on the show so often. In any case, she's clearly a highly skilled dancer, and that's what we appreciate her for.
-- Contributed by: Rachel HansonMy impression of Cheryl Burke is quite stuck up and snotty. She looks at every single dance partner as if their a piece of meat (married or not). I hope and pray she does not win Dancing with the Stars this year. Whenever she dances I turn the television off completely; she truly does not seem like a woman with great morals and values. I think maybe she needs to get back to reality and quite thinking she's something special because she's not; she's just like everyone else.
