Free Dance Images on the Internet

While it may be the case that search engines can find fantastic images, of all types and concerning all subjects, these images are not free to be used. Even though your computer can easily save the images in a file format (unless the site is protected against that very action), getting permission to use the image is much more difficult than saving the image to your computer for your own personal use.

The first route through which one can obtain free images is to write a letter to the owner of the image and ask for permission to use the image. In some cases, the photographer or owner of the image will grant you permission to use it; however, in most cases, usage of the image will be denied, or at least a hefty price will be quoted in order for you to obtain the right to use the image. If you don't have a sizeable budget for whatever project you would like the image for, this is usually not an option. Fortunately, there are ways to find free images that are also able to legally be used.

Dance Clip Art

Most word processing software programs come with some amount of clip art included in the software. Within all of these pictures, you will find some dance clip art images. More specialized sources of clip art exist online, where you will find clip art from a long list of subject areas, including: ballroom dance clip art, swing dance clip art, and even as specialized as fifties dance clip art. All of these sources of clip art are good options for free dance images because they offer free clip art.

It could very well be that, at first, you are not interested in using a clip art image, but clip art is an excellent image option because it lends itself more easily to several types of usage. On brochures, business cards, and business signs, a picture can be too much of a focal point to the viewer. Clip art is perfect for these types of work because the reader's eye is not drawn completely to the image; instead, the clip art image is seen at the same time as the words on the brochure or the sign. Clip art images do what images are supposed to do in such a setting: complement the words, not distract you from them.

Dance Photographs

If clip art is not the appropriate type of image for your project, there are lots of other solutions for cheap and free graphics. While it's not free, sites such as istockphoto offer high quality images at a very low cost (as low as $1 per image), and their selection is so broad that you can find absolutely anything and everything.

If you really need your images to be free, try the Creative Commons. On this website, you can find images that are free to use because they are under a special license to be shared with others. The philosophy behind this idea is related to the philosophy of sites like Wikipedia: information should be free on the Internet. While the amount of dance images you can find here is considerable, you'll have to make sure that the image you want to use is truly under a creative commons license; many results returned by the website are erroneously categorized as being under creative commons.

Whatever you need dance images for, be sure to check the license before you use an image. While it may be time-consuming, it is much better than being approached with a lawsuit because you used an image you assumed was free, but was not.
