Maksim Chmerkovskiy is one of the biggest sensations of the television show Dancing With the Stars. Appearing in several different seasons, he has managed to wow audiences with his dancing skills as well as make many watchers wonder if this dashing young dancer is already taken or not. His good looks, dancer physique, and amazing dance skills have made more than a mere handful of women very interested in this young dancer.
Personal Life of Maksim Chmerkovskiy
'Maks' was born in the Ukraine in early 1980, and took his first dancing lessons there. A highly-gifted young dancer, as he got older and his family immigrated to the United States, he became much more interested in several sports than in dancing. A ski accident was the cause of multiple injuries, and though he was warned that he might not ever gain the same physical prowess, through extensive therapy and work he achieved an impressive, complete recovery.
Dancing has once again become the athletic focus of Maksim Chmerkovskiy. He owns several studios in the New York City area, appears often on Dancing With the Stars, and works as a choreographer and instructor as well. He became engaged to fellow dancer Karina Smirnoff in 2008.
Is Maksim Chmerkovskiy Married?
After eight months of engagement, and an even shorter period of dating prior to the engagement, Maksim and Karina called off their engagement in September, 2009. Karina, also a professional dancer, appears regularly on Dancing With the Stars.
Professional Life of Maksim Chmerkovskiy

If you haven't yet seen Maksim Chmerkovskiy dance (or you need to see his impressive styling again), the following videos offer some highlights:
- Mambo with Willa Ford shows off the smooth stylings and magnanimous personality that has made 'Maks' so popular with the fans.
- A Jive number is another fun one, in which the energy level couldn't be higher. Still, the footwork is top-notch, and the movements are smooth, which is often unsuccessful with a number this quick in tempo.
- The couple 'Mel and Maks' made a splash in Season Two. Check out this passionate Latin number featuring a gorgeous tango and paso doble.
- From Season Three with Cheryl Burke, this rumba shows off the technical prowess of Maksim Chmerkovskiy. His steps are strong, and the styling is superb.
Many dances from Maks have made a huge splash on the Internet, both in videos being watched, as well as discussion forums raging with compliments for him and his dancing.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy has won several dance events and finished as a finalist in several others. Dancing and winning all around the world makes his track record even stronger.
Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that, not only is Maks an amazing dancer, he's also an extremely talented athlete. Of course, all dancers are very athletic; however, Maks showed just how athletic he is by winning the 2009 Superstars event. This even, started in the 1970s, is designed to test high-level athletes on ten different events. Regardless of what your specialty is, the idea is that the best athletes are those who can perform at a high level in just about any sport they try. Maksim and his partner, Kristi Leskinen, won the 2009 Superstars.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy may be best well known for his ballroom dancing, but he is clearly a superior athlete as well. This pure athleticism can only add to his beautiful ballroom style. Of course, his good looks don't hurt either, but his dance prowess alone make him deserving of all the recent praise.
